Bruce Tuckman’s Theory
Bruce Tuckman formed a theory of 5 stages to explain he behaviours of teamwork. The 5 stages are performing, storming, norming, forming and adjourning.
Forming:
This stage is where everything starts off fresh and the team is created. The team is now unsure of what to do and highly dependent on the team leader. Things that happen in this stage is the choosing of team members, identifying tasks, separating people to their specific task and team members are starting to feel an identity towards the group.
Storming:
This stage is where there is conflict within the group. The reasons of conflict can be; team members taking sides on issues, who should be doing what in the group or even who should be the leader.
Norming:
This stage is where there are developments of shared goals. So there are goals such as; accepting the rules that are given or accepting the tasks/ roles that are given out by the team leader.
Performing:
This stage is where the group is starting to cooperate and become productive. So is is when the group then comes together as one and start to achieve the goals that they have set themselves or by the team leader.
Adjourning:
This stage is the final stage so after the group has achieved their goals, they then separate off to do other jobs.
